Travel tips for the volcanophile

The Magma Chamber is a travel blog exploring volcanic landscapes around the world.

The Magma Chamber takes you deep into some of the world’s famous and lesser known volcanic wonders. With travel tips, photos, maps and practical information, the blog aims to inspire and help you (safely) explore some of these amazing places. Each post includes a volcanology section that provides a basic overview of the landscape and geological history to help you better understand the volcanoes you’re exploring.

I have a background in earth science but am not a professor in volcanology – if you are and you spot any mistakes please let me know. Posts are based on my own experiences of visiting these locations as well as some extra research. All maps are produced by myself and photos are taken by myself unless mentioned.

Based in Bristol in the UK, I’ve travelled to over 80 countries and am a big fan of volcanoes. I completed my masters in Geophysical Hazards back in 2015 and have since worked in the field of disaster research all around the world. I started this blog in 2025 to provide insights in how to (safely) experience volcanic landscapes, and help adventurous travellers understand and enjoy these places more.
